Hello World and Setup Stuff

Morning Update

I really want to jump in and code. But, I won't.

Yesterday I "wasted" the whole day looking for a company name. It was more complex than that, really, because I looked up domain names (and TLDs: .com, .pub, .studio, .productions, and .enterprise), GitHub accounts, YouTube, and Twitter names. Being a nerd, I made a spreadsheet. Being a developer, I gave everything a value and weight, then totalled it up to narrow things down to just the highest scores. Then I passed it by my wife and she clearly pointed out some things I missed and gave me her input on what her preferences were. This is why I asked her.

Ultimately, I went with the name I had already been thinking of and added "Studios" to the end, specifically because I will not just be making a game, but also a companion RPGLit book (yes, i know it's "LitRPG", but that just sounds weird to me). And this blog. And a vlog. And YouTube, Twitter and Discord to build a community. Maybe an Insta? Also a static site.

OMG I FORGOT DISCORD! I just realized this. I need to add that to my spreadsheet. Brb

Kk. I'm back. I added Discord, Twitch, Instagram, and <shudder> FB to my spreadsheet. Did some quick searching for existing accounts, etc. and RotorixStudios should be good.

Plan of the Day

  • get the RotorixStudios.com domain
  • setup email
  • File for incorporation (gotta wait 5 business days to file Statement of Information)
  • start accounts at:
    • GitHub
    • Twitter
    • YouTube
    • Discord
    • Instagram
  • Create a character with GIMP and MagicaVoxel
  • Create a 2D Godot project
    • Import the character into the Godot project
    • Hook up basic movement actions (WASD)
  • Create a 3D Godot project
    • Import the character into the Godot project
    • Hook up basic movement actions (WASD)
  • Create GitHub repos for each project
  • Push up the changes.
  • Compare and contrast the 2D and 3D projects
  • Start making decisions about the game

  • Choose a static site generator
  • Get an SSL certificate

  • Set up the SSL

  • Decide if I want to add Twitch and FB

Evening Update

Done

  • Set up domain and email (GSuite)
  • Filed my Articles of Organization with the state of California
  • Set up GitHub, Twitter, YouTube, Discord, and Instagram accounts (I swapped out Twitch for Instagram)

It's 17:45 so the rest of the stuff on the list will get pushed to tomorrow. I'm going to try and make it a company policy that working anything over 8 hours a day is strongly discouraged.
